Huffington Post front page.

Wow. ALL CAPS Arial and a chart saved as a lossy-ass JPG instead of a PNG. This might just be my least favorite thing on the Internet right now.
(source image - from here, blame HuffPo for the Arial and at least some of the generation decay)

Oh STFU, Chrome. You’re displaying one right frickin’ now.

Ten Reasons Your Blog Sucks

(Preamble: taking this list to heart would be reason #11)

  1. Your URL is [blog name].blogspot.com
  2. Your URL is [blog name].tumblr.com
  3. Your URL is [blog name].wordpress.com
  4. You don’t cite sources
  5. You don’t have clickthroughs to your sources
  6. You upload line drawings as JPGs
  7. You upload photos as PNGs
  8. You reblog The Daily What (hint: we’ve already seen it)
  9. You’re hoping someone will make it into a book
  10. You consistently misuse memes

Did I leave anybody out?

Ranted on Venn diagrams earlier. Figured I’d show you beginners how it’s done. Note the file extension.

Internet Charts: You’re Doing Them Wrong
Venn diagrams really don’t lend themselves to this sort of data set—clearly art represented here exists at varying degrees along two axes: stoner and douche. An XY plot makes a whole lot more sense, especially considering how many individual points are presented—I can’t even tell if LOLCats or Stained Glass is more stoner!
While this style of chart is very much in vogue—a meme, you might say—it really only works for discrete, “and/or” comparisons. I realize it’s a joke, but most of the humor therein stems from the logical and valid presentation of an absurd set of data. And this setup just doesn’t deliver.
Also, lossy compression? For a line drawing? PNG or GTFO. I bet they didn’t even make this in Illustrator/Inkscape.

How do you get a .jpg that lossy? How many generations of re-compression does it take to get that kind of noise in a simple, two-color line drawing?
Is it ironic that one of the world’s most delicious coffee companies is apparently one of the least Internet-savvy? I think it is.

I often get asked things like “What do you actually do?”
The answer: Make line drawings in Word that illustrate what I’m trying to say in writing.

The Star is very academic. Well done, Malone. Bonus points for png.

Made a few changes, added a few drinks, mostly because I love Creative Commons.
Also, use caution ordering a Caffe Latte. If you say “caffe latte” in America, you may end up with a Cafe au Lait. Stick to “latte”.
Confusingly, if you order a “latte” in Italy, I’m told you will get a glass of milk.

Beer and food pairing chart
This is really neat, I wish I knew where it was from

Sweet chart, definitely good to have. But two issues:

I’d prefer if the beers went from lightest to darkest along the y-axis Or in any sort of order, really. If I’m missing a logical assembly here, please, clue me in.
This should be a PNG. GIF is acceptable based on image content, but the format is very old and saddled with some (largely ignored) copyright issues. The PNG standard was created to replace it. The only time you should ever use gif is for animation (and even then, you shouldn’t).
